Description
"Athena" by Hafsa Idrees
Finger painted with oil colours on stretched canvas
70x50 cm (27,5 x 19,6inches), 2020.
I love finger-painting wild life and I believe owls are very interesting creatures among others. They are often seen as mysterious in my culture, mostly because many owls are strictly nocturnal and humans have always found night to be full of mystery and the unknown. Also, the mythology relates owl to this wisdom and femininity. The owl was a symbol for Athena, goddess of wisdom and strategy, before the Greeks gave their pantheon human forms. They have many meanings and symbolism attached to them all over the world.
Water is very special to me so I wanted to combine these two subjects together. Even though most owls don't enjoy/water, but when they do, they look so spectacular and magical. The painting is hundred percent finger painted in impressionist style.
